humanstory is about real and honest storytelling for events. We think the stories that bubble to the surface at a wedding are the ones worth telling and the ones worth keeping. Pleaase leave a message. We would love to hear your thoughts about events and event filmmaking.

Humanstory, behind the scenes- Kristin, bride with a sense of humor and a big heart.

Sometimes,  it's the less than graceful moments that are often the most fun and the ones that can be the most heartwarming ones.  I have always thought that the dressing and primping of the bride  is one of the funniest times of the day.  From my experience, brides that  have the most fun on their wedding day are the same  brides that not only see the humor in all of the chaos, awkwardness and silliness of the day,  but actually enjoy it and look forward to it.

Kristin was one of those brides. Only hours after a  tropical storm passed though the area drenching her outdoor reception venue, Kristen was not only unfazed but was determined to have fun no matter what.

Here is a clip from their film where Kristen is enjoying an awkward and fun moment with some of the most important women in her life.   I decided to juxtapose this scene with some nice stories and comments from her family and friends that give us a glimpse into what kind of person Kristin is.

I'm getting Hitched in Georgetown!

Well, I'm not getting hitched,  but I am excited that I was asked to attend the Hitched event next week.    It should really be a great evening.   I am hoping to see some people I know and maybe meet a few more.

The event will take place Thursday, March 19th at Hitched Salon in Georgetown.

Brides will get the chance to meet with Anne Chertoff, people from Design Cuisine, Hitched Salon, Ritzy Bee Events, Kate Headly Photography, K.Rose Cakes, Laura Hooper Calligraphy and more.

I hope to see you there.

humanstory-behind the scenes (Supporting Characters)

We know from high school writing  class that character development is an important tool for a writer to have.  In filmmaking, of the the same rules apply and character development is equally important..

In wedding films, of course, we  tell the story of our protagonists (our couple) but it is often our supporting cast and their stories that add a richness to the film. These supporting characters tell us so much more about our couple, about who they are and how they found their place in this world.

Megan's stepfather came into her life and immediately found himself in unchartered territory.  He was the new guy, trying to figure out how to be a husband and a father all at the same time.  To say Megan didn't like him at first may have been an understatement.  How he went from the new guy to the only man Megan would let walk her down the aisle is the stuff family stories are made of.

From Megan and Drew’s wedding film, here is the story of the New Guy.

humanstory-behind the scenes (Interviews)

My filmmaking style is most likely the result of watching films in my two favorite genres, romantic comedy (yes, I just admitted that) and interview driven documentary.

The first one might have obvious applications in wedding films but the latter may not be as obvious to some.   Who in their right mind would want to interview people on  their wedding day much less be interviewed?

Those who think that interviews are intrusive or cheesy may be surprised to find that they can be a beautiful part of wedding film.

For me nothing is quite as engaging as someone telling you their story while you look in their eyes.   I love the nuances , the rhythms, the expressions, the imperfections and honesty that I get to witness during these interviews.  It is a true portrait of who these people are at this moment in time.

I am always moved by the eloquence of common people.   At the end of the day, thats the thing that stays with me.

Thanks to Erik Leise for the photos.
